When changing the name of the product, the url doesn't change. Isn't it supposed to? Also, Save and Next doesn't go to the next page. It does save the changes though. Save and next for batch edit categories worked. OK.

Hi Judy,
Not via batch edit, it's an optional item via the product editing page to setup 301 re-directs when the product title is changed. If you are changing product titles do it via the product editing page and check the box to create a 301 if desired. |

This is not good and will cause the merchants extra work. In Gold, when you edited a product name, it changed the url, even when you did it in batch edit mode if you left the CustomUrl field blank. In AC9, if you edit a category name in batch mode and have the Category Url field exposed and don't enter a Category Url, it changes the url, which is what would be expected. It does not do this on the product batch edit and it does not create the expected friendly urls if you import products from another platform into the database. So now if a merchant wants to switch from another platform, or even AC5, he has to go in to each product and save it to get the friendly url created. If it creates friendly urls for categories in batch edit mode, why can't it do that for products? Or why can't it create them via a maintenance routine if the product url field is left blank? I did some testing yesterday and my tests were inconclusive because it seemed to do it part of the time. I have 1000+ products so being able to create a friendly url without editing each one would sure be a help.

Hi Judy,
In my testing of categories batch edit, I can't see that it's changing the URL. That will require some extra settings on the batch edit page to accommodate 301's, so that will have to be reported as a future issue. However it seems to me, the batch upload should certainly create the correct URLs based on the category/product name. It would not be difficult using excel to populate the URL field if you are actively working on an import. |

That is weird about the Category batch edit.I had the name and Category Url visible, then navigated through the paging and saved each page. All my category urls are friendly now. I know I did not create all those urls myself. I did try uploading products after exporting them. The file had productid and name in it and I selected to update existing products and the url was not changed/created by the import. Ah... you meant I had to enter a product url. I didn't do that. Hi Judy, Quote:you meant I had to enter a product url. I didn't do that. Yes that's correct. The uploaded data needs to be sound. |

I just tested the category save on my local site. Only a couple of the categories didn't have the category url populated. I had 62 entries in my ac_CatalogUrl table. I went to category batch edit and went through the paging using Save and next. It created those urls- I now have 162 entries in my ac_CatalogUrl table.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. That is good. By using Save on the category batch edit page, it added new entries to the table- automatically created the friendly urls.
