I know I am probably just missing it, but we are beginning work to upgrade our Gold R10 store to v9.

However, I haven't been able to find any documentation on upgrading the database or letting the installer create a new database, then convert the R10 database data into the new v9 database.

I apologize if the installer prompts for this at a later step, but I didn't want to setup the database in the installer until I checked on the proper procedure for upgrades.

Thanks

Hello,

On the second page where you fill out the database connection string, there is a checkbox to indicate that it's a Gold database to be upgraded.

The instructions for upgrading from Gold to R9 are here:

http://help.ablecommerce...de_to_ablecommerce_9.htm

Since this is a major upgrade, it's purpose is to deal with data only. Any customization on the retail side will need to be redone, which is pretty much the same thing that happened when we went from AC7 to Gold.

Thanks,
Katie

Thank you Katie,

The top of the instructions provided in the link says the following:
"Upgrading should only be performed by stores with no need to customize."

We were under the impression that RC3 was stable and should not change much between release.
Our site is heavily customized currently, and we are looking to upgrade this year.

We are currently on R10, so sitewide SSL is not an option.

We were planning on upgrading to R12 to gain sitewide SSL but with v9 coming, we decided to make a go at it. (If we are upgrading anyway, might as well try the newest)

However, we were looking at a target of October to go live with the new site.

Should we delay these plans until v9 is fully ready or possibly plan on going back to R12 upgrade until next year?

Thanks

Hi,

It's very hard to predict the stability until we have more people using it, but we have measures in place to make sure the issues are tested through by a minimum of 2 different people. Even then, there will always be bugs to find - we just hope they are more or less trivial at this stage.

The development cycle for AbleCommerce v9 is coming to an end. We are wrapping things up and getting to a final version. Even so, I would recommend that you wait for the final version which should be ready by the end of July.

What you might want to consider is a smaller upgrade to Gold R11 which includes the SSL feature you need. Make sure to install the Gold R11 service pack too. It had some specific SSL bug fixes.

I hope this helps!
