When I use VS 2019 to edit a partial view in the /Themes/<theme>/Views/Shared/ folder, I'm not getting intellisense support on the Razor commands.

Is there a way to fix that? It's incredibly cumbersome without it.

I tried setting it to include in project, that didn't seem to help.

Please try adding a web.config file in the theme views folder. In the web.config file, you can add namespaces that will provide code reference for the IntelliSense to work as expected.

You can take the web.config file from the root views folder as an example.

This is the web.config in that folder now. Shouldn't this be all it needs?

Code:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

<configuration>
  <configSections>
    <sectionGroup name="system.web.webPages.razor" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorWebSectionGroup, System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35">
      <section name="host" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.HostSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" />
      <section name="pages" type="System.Web.WebPages.Razor.Configuration.RazorPagesSection, System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" />
    </sectionGroup>
  </configSections>

Yes, it should work after adding this file.

Well apparently it's not. I'll keep digging and see if I can find out why, thanks.

AHA! Figured it out.

If the web.config in the theme's custom /Views/ folder is not marked as 'Include in Project' within visual studio, it won't use it.

Once you right-click the /Themes/<theme>/Views/web.config and select "Include In Project", it works as expected.
