I have a client that uses a zero dollar Ship Method called "Will Pick Up" for local customers. The problem is that in California someone a couple of hours away may pay a very different tax rate. They say that they are required by law to pay the rate for the location that the items ship from. But the tax rules use the customer's address even when the items are picked up.

Can anyone think of a work-around for this?

Thanks

When I had my oscommerce store that was an addon you could install.
Basically on checkout the customer would select "Customer Pickup" and the taxes would be calculated based on the shop's address, not the customers.

Obviously it would bypass the shipping charge.

Hopefully someone will know how to code it.

I can get the php files for the addon if it would help, but it was designed for apache not asp.

I had done the same thing on a site- if the customer selected pickup, use the store's address for the shipping address, assuming that the tax nexus was based on the shipping address, not the billing address.
