We see numerous error messages like the following, but when we browse to the page, it is OK. Any idea what causes them? In this case, line 7 is Html.RenderAction("PageTemplate", "Category", new { Id = Model });

Buried inside all that is "Inner Exception: Error executing child request for handler 'System.Web.Mvc.HttpHandlerUtil+ServerExecuteHttpHandlerAsyncWrapper'"

When I see that, it means one of the following:

A widget in that page layout is throwing an exception
A widget, inside a widget board in that page layout, is throwing an exception
A partial view, inside a widget or widget board in that page layout, is throwing an exception

In most cases for me, it's a partial view blowing up while the parent view is trying to render.

They're a huge pain to track down. If the error happens every time, you can use process of elimination to narrow down the bad widget. Just make a copy of the layout, assign the copy as the default and then remove widgets one by one until you no longer get the error on page load. The last one removed is your culprit. Reassign the original page layout back and delete the copy.

Inside a widget that has multiple partial views references, same process. Comment one out at a time until you stop seeing the error.

Takes me an eternity to track these down, but they irritate the hell out of me. I'm still fighting some sort of double postback triggering on the add-to-cart button. One has the correct product id, the other has no product it and the method just throws an exception.
