The store admin is responsive and fills a full screen but the store default theme is also supposed to be responsive but has a max width of around 1024?

I think that would be easy to change by making the container class to 100%.

There is a page-wrapper class that allows the Header and Footer to be full width and then a container class that is restricting the content. But I don't see any reason the entire page can't be made to display full width if you want.
