I am aware that on a multicategory grid, default sorting is an issue. That being said, when a page loads on a category grid, you have a sort by option on the right-hand side.

Is there a way to have a default to a specific setting without user intervention?

In other words, I would like it to default to "Price (Low to High)" when the page opens. If not, this might be an option for a future release.

Thanks
-Ray

We got this working by applying a specific code into the category summary that's commented out. We modified the controller to look for this specific code in the summary section and based on that code it will change the sorting default before showing.

Waiting to see if you guys think this is a decent future enhancement, if not we will take our implementation and modify it to include a drop-down box in the category back end to determine the default viewing sort when displaying to a user.

Hi Ray,

I'm glad you were able to get this working and thank you for posting an update.

I do think it would be a good feature to have. I will add it to the future queue, but it won't make it into the next version. For now, just go with your customizations.

Thanks for your support!

I'm glad you think it's a good idea now I'm going to throw something else at you because I've been going back and forth on this. There are two ways you can implement this, each one has their pluses and minuses.

You can implement it at the category level, (which is what we did) or you can implement it at the component level.

The second option actually gives you more control, but it's harder to implement, because it involves going into the inner template to modify.

I'm just curious to your thoughts on this.

I was thinking that it would be a good widget option. Is that what you mean by component level? It would give merchants the most flexibility by allowing the default sort to change depending on the widget setting.

Thanks for your support!
