If for some reason saving a product edit fails, the merchant has no indication that there was an error unless he refreshes the screen and sees that his values didn't change or he notices that there is no green popup message. There really should be some indication that the save failed.

The validation have been applied on almost all required fields in the edit product page. If save fails, it should indicate with error message on the screen as indication to why it failed. Is there any specific field on edit product page that hasn't triggered the validation in your case?

Well, I guess one issue was when I had added custom code and it didn't save for some reason! What brought this up this time was the 200 character limit on the search keywords and no error message unless you looked in the log to see that the data would be truncated, hence not saved.
