I've used the catalog rebuild urls option a few times now. Both times it seems to hang the entire site, front and admin side, until it's finished. Catalog only has about 7,000 products and around 700 categories.

It may just be my dev machine, but I doubt it. Would help to launch that process in a separate thread for people with a larger catalog that run it on a live site.

The code responsiable to rebuild the catalog URLs was written with the intention of keeping other operations uninterrupted and responsive. Perhaps, we need to review if there is some bit that needs to be fine tuned. We will look into this, thanks for reporting this.

It's probably fine on smaller catalogs. I think maybe it struggles on larger catalogs.

I've got one client with over 200,000 products across thousands of categories. Everything is fun to do with that catalog Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)
