I am requesting an additional Shipping Carrier Plug-In that we could use for Other Carriers that can provide a tracking link but for which a formal "rating" service or Plug-in isn't available or being used.
A scenario is where we might use a shipper for which no plug-in exists (maybe regional carriers or an LTL carrier), but the carrier does use tracking numbers and offers a tracking link. We need the plug-in configuration to allow us to simply specify the carrier's Name/Service & tracking link so that when we use that carrier for a customer Shipment, the tracking number we assign can have a tracking link in the shipping confirmation email that the customer receives.
This would be used more for the Admin side, where for example a customer orders product that qualifies for "Flat Rate" or "Free Shipping" or perhaps "Best Way" methods that are not linked to a specific carrier. We would still like to assign the carrier and tracking information to the customer's shipment using the "Other Carrier" list.
The Other Carrier Plug-in should allow us to configure a collection of carriers and their corresponding tracking links....maybe it looks like:
Canpar Ground = http.//www.canpar.com/en/track/TrackingAction.do?locale=en&TYPE=0&reference= SomeOther Local Freight = http.//www.someother.com/track= DHL = https.//www.dhl.com/ca-en/home/tracking.html?tracking-id=
We might not have an actual account with any of the carriers in the list (or maybe we use a third party booking service) but we should still be able to provide tracking links to the customers.
Thanks!
-Jeff
